LOVING, SERVING, AND GROWING THE KINGDOM ONE PERSON AT A TIME

1 Peter 3:12

"For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil." (NCV)

What is God saying?

God hears the prayers and watches over those who follow Him, but He opposes those who oppose Him.

What is God saying to us today?

Many people who have the idea that if we do good God will bless us (it's really hard to stop being focused on our works), and they point to this verse as proof. But do we really have to be good to earn God's favor? The key is the word "righteous" - who of us is righteous? None of us has any righteousness on our own; only those of us who accept Christ's sacrifice are covered by His righteousness. So God looks after and communicates with those who follow Him - in other words He enters into a relationship with us. (He turns His face away from those who don't follow Him - in other words there is no relationship there.) So, it becomes apparent that any favor we receive from God due to our righteousness, really comes from His own righteousness to begin with - it's like we receive a double portion of blessing.

What is God inviting us to do?

Would you like to receive God's blessings in your life today? He invites us to accept Christ's righteousness as our own and receive the blessings that come from being in a relationship with Him.
