“He has saved us and called us to a holy live-not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time” (NIV)
What is God saying?
Before the world existed, God had extended His grace to us. Therefore, there is nothing we could do or have done to earn grace, because it existed before we did. We are saved only through God’s gift.
What is God saying to us today?
We as Christians often struggle to fully embrace the concept of grace. We think if we just follow the rules a little bit better, if we just give a little more time or money, if we, if we, if we…then we’ll show our worthiness for salvation. But, the Bible is clear that that is not how it works at all. None of us are worthy of salvation; our only hope is the free gift of God’s grace. And just to help us be clear on this point, we see that this grace was given to us before we existed, before we were even aware of our need for it - like a spare tire included in a new car.
What is God inviting us to do?
Are you tired of trying to be good enough to be saved? God invites us to have the assurance that we are saved, as long as we accept His grace.
