LOVING, SERVING, AND GROWING THE KINGDOM ONE PERSON AT A TIME

Dependence

Even though COVID-19 is the number one thing on most people’s minds these days, there seems to be a big difference in the level of awareness people have of the details. Some people get the basic gist of what’s happening, while others spend hours every day researching the data and reading the latest reports. People’s awareness, or lack thereof, seemingly makes an impact in day-to-day life as they adjust their actions and choices accordingly.

Yet there is a group that hasn’t been consciously impacted by this pandemic – really young children. While parents have most likely explained to their older kids what is happening (at an age-appropriate level), the really young ones don’t have the capabilities to grasp what is happening at all. To these little ones, the world is the same as it has always been, because they continue to be completely focused and dependent upon mom and dad. [The same can be said of pets and their owners.]

Christ calls His followers to have that same level of focus and dependence on God. This does not mean that we are to be willfully ignorant of what is happening around us, but we need to have that same total reliance on our Heavenly Father. This is why Jesus said, “I promise you this. If you don’t change and become like a child, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3). May we have the childlike faith to completely rely on Abba and find the comfort and security He offers!
