LOVING, SERVING, AND GROWING THE KINGDOM ONE PERSON AT A TIME

Ecclesiastes 7:9

"Don't become angry quickly, because getting angry is foolish." (NCV)

What is God saying?

People should not lose their temper, because that only leads them to do dumb things.

What is God saying to us today?

With the internet, social media, etc., it is really easy for us to both get angry quickly and act on our anger quickly. Of course people have lost their tempers since nearly the beginning of time, but the lack of instantaneous communication helped to prevent some of the fallout. Now, when we get angry we can post, tweet, text our feelings immediately - which often just makes matters worse. It doesn't help that some people ("trolls") intentionally say things online to make other people upset, and when we respond to them, they say worse things to make us more upset. Though it's not just the trolls that get to us. When's the last time you actually had a civil, open-minded political discourse on Facebook? And there are still all of the traditional ways we lose our tempers - a comment from a spouse, a mistake from a coworker, etc. But, all of the anger that we act on really is pointless, because it doesn't do anyone any good in the long run.

What is God inviting us to do?

Have you ever been proud of something you've done when you've lost your temper? God invites us to come to Him with our anger, and He'll help us stay in control so that we won't do anything foolish.
