LOVING, SERVING, AND GROWING THE KINGDOM ONE PERSON AT A TIME

Matthew 6:25

"So I tell you, don't worry about the food or drink you need to live, or about the clothes you need for your body. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothes." (NCV)

What is God saying?

God's followers are to focus on the truly important things of life, because He promises to take care of their necessities.

What is God saying to us today?

Food, drink, and proper clothing are fundamental to life; without them we would die fairly quickly from thirst, hunger, and exposure. And yet, as humans, we know there is much more to life than scrounging for food - that's kind of what separates us from animals. So while it seems odd for someone, even God, to tell us not to worry about having them, it also makes sense, because we can get so caught up in the mundane details of life that we miss out on the stuff that really matters. Like the cliche of the parent who works such long hours that he/she misses out on being part of their children's lives, God reminds us here that we should not go through life distracted. We need to make sure we are focusing on the meaningful things like spending time with our families, friends, and Him -  and we can, because He promises to take care of all the "small" stuff that can distract us.

What is God inviting us to do?

Have you gotten your priorities out of order? God invites us to trust that He will provide for us, so that we can make sure we put the first things first.
