As over a million people around the world have contracted the novel coronavirus, we are finding that nobody is safe. While some people might be in higher risk categories than others, the virus can and has infected people of all demographics. Not even the rich, famous, and powerful are exempt from this pandemic. Athletes, politicians, and actors, etc. from all over the world have been diagnosed.
One of the most high-profile victims of COVID-19 is Boris Johnson, the prime minister of the United Kingdom. He is currently in the ICU in serious condition after being diagnosed 10 days previously. Clearly, if the leader of one of the richest and most medically-advanced countries in the world can be in the same mortal danger as a slum-dweller in a developing nation, this virus plays no favorites. It does not respect a person’s status, wealth, age, race, or reputation.
In a similar manner, God is not a respecter of persons. The major difference being though, that while COVID-19 seeks to destroy everyone, God seeks to save everyone. God doesn’t care about our education level, our bank account, or our popularity; all He sees when He looks at you is someone worthy of His grace and salvation. This is the realization that Peter came to in Acts 10:34-35, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism. In every country God accepts anyone who worships him and does what is right.” May we find comfort in knowing that God accepts us regardless of who we are, and may we share that Good News with others!
