LOVING, SERVING, AND GROWING THE KINGDOM ONE PERSON AT A TIME

On Guard

It seems like every day medical professionals discover a new danger associated with this novel coronavirus. The initial reports were that it was focused on the lungs. Then they found out it also causes heart problems in some cases. Then they added gastrointestinal issues. Then loss of ability to smell and taste; then skin rashes; and then pink eye. Just a couple of days ago it was reported that COVID-19 attacks blood vessels, kidneys, and liver. Now doctors are reporting that in some cases it causes major strokes.

What seemed to begin as an especially deadly pneumonia has morphed into something that can wreak havoc on a large array of organs and systems. With all of these developments, it’s hard to stay on top of all of the potential hazards posed by this virus. Doctors and patients alike need to be vigilant of the variety of ways COVID-19 can be dangerous and lethal, because it isn’t isolated to one part of the body.

Christ calls His followers to be on guard against the dangers of sin. Satan knows hundreds of ways to attack us, not just in the typically vulnerable areas but using methods we might not be expecting. The good news is that God has a thousand ways to protect us from Satan’s best efforts, all we need to do is stay connected to Him. “You can trust God to keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it, for he has promised this and will do what he says. He will show you how to escape temptation’s power so that you can bear up patiently against it” (1 Corinthians 10:13). May we be vigilant in our fight against sin by continuing to place our trust in God, listening to His guidance!
