LOVING, SERVING, AND GROWING THE KINGDOM ONE PERSON AT A TIME

Proverbs 16:24

"Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, making people happy and healthy." (NCV)

What is God saying?

If people want to make others happy, they should speak pleasantly to them.

What is God saying to us today?

Unpleasant words are all around us these days. It's difficult to listen to music, watch a movie, or even go to the store without hearing some type of profanity. And while curse words might not have the shock value they once did, they still have a negative impact - they are not pleasant words. But the truth is there is much more to this passage than curse words. Some people, particularly Christians, have perfected the art of speaking unpleasantly without uttering a single profanity. Does yelling at a cashier for his/her mistake really help resolve the issue? Does spreading gossip about your coworker really build anyone up? Does disrespecting an employee really boost his/her performance? As followers of God, we should not only use pleasant words, but the content of our words should be as pleasant as possible.

What is God inviting us to do?

How do you want to impact other people's lives? God invites us to be a blessing to others, to make them happy and healthy, by speaking pleasantly to them.
