"A friend loves you all the time, and a brother helps in time of trouble." (NCV)
What is God saying?
God's followers should always love their friends, and should be ready to help their family members when they're in trouble.
What is God saying to us today?
The term "friend" is used a lot today. People sometimes call someone a friend when they've only had a brief conversation. Some of us have thousands of friends on social media sites. But are these people really our friends? While there is nothing wrong about these type of relationships, but a lot fall far short of the Biblical concept of friendship. Biblical friendship really comes down to unconditional love. And this definition starts to blur the lines between friends and family. As part of a family, we are to be there to support and help them, not just love them, whenever they are facing adversity.
What is God inviting us to do?
How do you define "friends and family"? God provides an elevated view of these concepts, because He invites us to become His friends and adopted children!
