LOVING, SERVING, AND GROWING THE KINGDOM ONE PERSON AT A TIME

Psalms 1:1-2

"Happy are those who don't listen to the wicked, who don't go where sinners go, who don't do what evil people do. They love the Lord's teachings, and they think about those teachings day and night." (NCV)

What is God saying?

Happiness does not come from wickedness, sin, or evil. Instead, happy people love God's teachings because they say how to get the results they truly want from life.

What is God saying to us today?

Think about all of the things that promise us happiness in this world. Do they really live up to their promise? Many, perhaps most, do not. Those that do bring some happiness into our lives, while they might not necessarily be religious or Christian, are in harmony with what we find in God's Word. Without getting too much into detail, the main things that promote happiness are: good health, quality relationships, a clear conscience, and a sense of purpose. Happiness isn't connected to money or possessions or status. Those are all external things, when true happiness comes from within. And this is why Scripture is so concerned with the internal and spiritual, because God knows that that is the true source of our happiness.

What is God inviting us to do?

Would you say that you are happy? God invites us to stop chasing the tempting, but temporary joys of the world, and search His Word for the prescription for true and lasting happiness.
