"Create in me a pure heart, God, and make my spirit right again." (NCV)
What is God saying?
He is able to recreate and renew our inner-person, and He encourages us to ask Him to do so.
What is God saying to us today?
Two questions arise from this short verse. First, what does having a pure heart mean? Well, something that is pure is made up of 100% of a substance; it is not divided. There are so many temptations and distractions in this world that it is easy for our hearts to become impure, for us to struggle staying faithful to God. So, having a pure heart means that we are totally, completely, 100% dedicated to God and His cause. Second, what does having a right spirit mean? There probably are several ways to interpret this and apply this to our lives, but when we look at the big picture of what Scripture teaches, we find that a God wants us to have a spirit of selflessness, not of selfishness. So, having a right spirit means to be focused on serving others instead of serving ourselves.
What is God inviting us to do?
Has the way you have been living up to this point made your heart heavy and your spirit tired? God is inviting us to make a profound change in our lives by allowing Him to make our hearts purely about Him and to renew our spirits to be rightly focused on the needs of others.
